Appeals Presentation in Wayne County
On June 21, 2001, JSEC Coordinator Patrice Fields spoke to the Wayne County Job Service Employer Committee. The topic was "Successfully Navigating the Appeals Process." The meeting was held at the Goldsboro Job Link office.

Clegg Speaks at Pageant
When not engaged in his work as Director of the ESC Office of Governmental Relations, David Clegg is Scholarship Director for the Miss North Carolina Scholarship Organization. Mr. Clegg was a featured speaker each evening of competition during the 2001 Miss North Carolina Scholarship Pageant, held June 20-23 at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium.

ESC Represented at Legislative Black Caucus
The 16th Annual Legislative Education and Scholarship Weekend Conference was held on June 22-23rd at the Sheraton Imperial Conference Center in RTP. Patrice Fields represented the Employment Security Commission at the event attended by primarily by community, business and government leaders from across the state. The conference seeks to raise awareness of critical economic, education and policy issues impacting North Carolina's increasingly diverse population. Highlights of this year's session included the Town Hall Meeting moderated by Senator Bill Martin and the banquet attended by Governor Mike Easley, Lt. Governor Beverly Perdue and various other members of the Council of State. The conference is sponsored by the North Carolina Legislative Black Caucus.

Fields Attends NCCBI Young Executives Forum
On June 27, 2001, the State JSEC Coordinator attended the North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry's Young Executives Forum in the NC Biotechnology Center in RTP. NCCBI is the state's Chamber of Commerce organization and is the state's most influential employer advocacy group.

Director Speaks to Turkey Growers
On June 28, David Clegg was the keynote speaker for the North Carolina Turkey Producers Association at its Raleigh meeting.

Effective Hiring, Employee Appraisals and Terminations
On July 13th, Denise Plemmons, Occupational Analyst, and Patrice Fields conducted a training program for managers and supervisors employed by Murphy Medical Center, Copper Basin Medical Center and Good Shepherd Home Health. The half-day session was held at Ranger United Methodist Church in Murphy.

Clegg Speaks to Cumberland County Group
On July 23rd, David Clegg was keynote speaker at a gathering of Cumberland County School officials. The meeting took place in Fayetteville.

Wake County JSEC Meets
On July 25th, Patrice Fields as the guest presenter for the quarterly meeting of the Wake County Job Service Employer Committee. The topic was "How to Successfully Navigate the Appeals and Hearings Processes. Employers attended the session from Wake and Nash Counties.

Clegg Travels to High Point
On July 25th, David Clegg was guest speaker at meetings at the High Point Medical Center and High Point City Center for Creative Leadership.

Harnett County Foundation
David Clegg spoke to a meeting of the Harnett County Foundation on July 26th.

Fields Speaks to Cleveland County Employer
On July 26th, Patrice Fields conducted two sessions of the "Avoiding Litigation Landmines" presentation at Universal Manufacturing and Logistics Company. Located in Shelby, Universal is a subsidiary of the Vivendi Corporation, a French conglomerate that includes Universal Studios. The Cleveland County facility produces compact discs [CDs] for many popular recording artists.
