Where can I find the latest state
and county unemployment rates?
The most recent state unemployment rates and county unemployment rates press releases
can be found on the
press
release page of the ESC website. Or look under
Labor Force
Statistics in the Labor Market Information portal.
When are the state and county unemployment
rates released?
The schedule for release of unemployment rate data is as follows:

| County rates, only available not seasonally adjusted |
4th Friday in each month* |

What is the minimum wage?
The minimum wage is currently $7.25 per hour.
My child needs a work permit. How do
I get one?
Work permits are distributed by the Department of Social Services. You can obtain
instructions and a blank copy of the
Youth Employment Certificate at the
NC Dept. of Labor web site, or call the Wage
and Hour Bureau at (919) 807-2796 for more information.
Which labor posters must be displayed
in the workplace, and where can I get them?
A list
of posters NC private-sector employers must display is located in the
Business
Services portal. Some of the statutes and regulations enforced by agencies
within the Department of Labor (DOL) require that notices be posted in the workplace.
DOL provides electronic copies of the required posters.
Who do I contact to change my address
information for ESC News or the Job Servant?
You can email the ESC Public Information Office to change your address.
Please include in your email the 8-digit number located on the bottom right corner of
your mailing label. You may also call PIO at 919-733-4329.
How do I file a claim for unemployment?
A totally separated individual may file a claim for
unemployment insurance benefits at the nearest Employment
Security Commission local office. For a complete listing of
local offices, refer to the Employment Security Commission
Offices Directory or use the online
ESC Office Locator.
Additionally, ESC now provides most claimants the ability to apply online. If you
have earned wages in North Carolina and live in North Carolina or a border state,
then you can
file for benefits and register for work in as little
as 20 minutes online.
Employers are responsible for filing attached claims for workers on temporary layoff.
What is the current maximum weekly unemployment insurance
benefit amount?
$505 per week.
