North Carolina has the highest maximum weekly benefit amount among the Southeastern states.
As of August 1, that weekly benefit amount increased from $494 to $505. This is based on a new, higher
average weekly wage in North Carolina of $758.44 (or, $39,438.88 per year).
Not everyone who files for unemployment insurance benefits qualifies for the maximum weekly
amount. That is determined by a worker’s base period, which is the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters the person worked, prior to the quarter in which a claim for benefits is filed.
